Atrum Rules

By connecting to the Atrum IRC network, you agree to abide by the following rules.

  1. Violation of any applicable laws, such as sharing copyrighted material without permission, child pornography etc. will not be tolerated!
  2. Any DDoS/Network based attacks directed at the IRC network are strictly prohibited.
  3. No flooding or spamming/advertising directed at channels, users or services.
  4. A maximum limit of 10 connections per IP/host is allowed. Should you require more than 10 connections please ask in #help. Abusing this limit to clone is prohibited.
  5. Channels on our network may have their own rules in addition to our network rules. Please make sure that you are aware of these rules as well. We will not get involved with channel issues, those who run the channel have final say there.
  6. Bots are allowed provided they have usermode +B set.
  7. Impersonation of a Network Service is strictly prohibited.

Violation of the above network rules may result in immediate and possibly permanent termination of the network connection. It may also result in loss of privilege on the network such as nicknames/memos/access/etc. The decision of what punishment to be carried out on violation of the rules is entirely based on the discretion of the Admin/IRC Operator at the time of the offence, and based on the severity of the offence. By connecting to (or not disconnecting from) The Atrum IRC Network, you accept these rules and agree to abide by them at all times.

Atrum and individual server administrators reserve the right to allow or disallow connections to this network, without any prior notification and without justification; and to act in any way they see fit against individuals and organizations abusing the network, its resources or its users.

Due to the nature of IRC the Atrum IRC Network and its staff take no responsibility for and explicitly disclaim any legal liability for the content of any messages or files that pass through this network as the result of connecting or running any commands whilst connected to it.

Go to http://atrum.org/rules/ for more detail. Atrum has several mechanisms in place to automatically manage IRC activity on their server. These include the prevention of channel takeovers, registration of nicks with the user’s password, etc. through their Chanserv, NickServ, MemoServ, and OperServ services.

#GaySA General Rules

  1. Any user, by entering #GaySA, automatically agrees to both the rules of #GaySA and Atrum.
  2. Monitor this website for changes to and or updates usage and rules. "I didn't know" will not be accepted as an excuse.
  3. #GaySA is visited by adults and kids alike. Nicknames that are inappropriate for youngsters to see are not allowed. Drug-related, sexually explicit, racially offensive or religiously offensive nicknames are also not allowed. Let common sense guide you. If you can’t decide for yourself whether a nick is inappropriate or offensive ask a SOP or an AOP.
  4. In the open channel:
    1. You may not paste anything that has been said to you in private (particularly by other users of the channel). What takes place in private must stay private. Personal disagreements must stay private as well;
    2. You may not blatantly trawl or cruise, i.e. you may not solicit or offer sexual activity, rather change your nick to reflect your location and or age.
    3. You may not advertise, promote, or provide URL links to, any kind of pornography;
    4. You may not advertise, promote, or provide URL links to, any commercial enterprises (neither in the open channel, nor in your quit message);
    5. You may not advertise any other IRC channel (neither in the open channel, nor in private);
    6. You may not divulge anyone’s telephone numbers or physical, postal and or email addresses;
    7. You may not use or divulge anyone’s actual names, or divulge anyone’s age, location, occupation, personal statistics, or any private information about them without their permission.
    8. You may not flood the channel, i.e. post the same word, phrase, or question more than three times; or post lines comprising a string of more than 25 nonsensical letters, numbers, or punctuation marks; or post more than five consecutive lines.
    9. You may not disrespect any religion, or blaspheme excessively.
    10. Hate speech, gossip, slander, and the harassment or abuse of any user on the channel is not permitted. If you are unable to just ignore offensive and provocative remarks, then use the /ignore <nickname> command. This will prevent everything typed by that person (in the open channel, or to you in private) from being displayed on your screen.
  5. The channel bot, Boytjie, is there for entertainment purposes and may not be abused. Anyone found to be have set offensive factoids will either be banned permanently or have their rights to set a factoid revoked.
  6. Do not ask or beg for ops. If you do, you’ll be kicked off the channel immediately, and if you do it again, you will be banned.
  7. Regulars of #GaySA are not to harass other channels and or their users.
  8. Any VOP, HOP, AOP or SOP must identify BEFORE entering the channel.
  9. VOPS, HOPS, AOPS and even SOPS found to be creating and/or supporting or soliciting members (either in the open channel or in private) for a directly competitive channel will lose their status permanently.

If you are new to #GaySA, and you happen to break any of the channel rules, an operator will usually warn you and/or ask you not to do it again. If you break the rule again you will be kicked off the channel with an accompanying kick message that explains why you were kicked. If you do it a third time you’ll be kicked and banned, and will not be able to join the channel again until the ban is lifted.

If you are channel regular who makes a habit of transgressing the rules, expect to be kicked and banned without warning.

If you have been banned and you want to negotiate your un-banning, please deal first with the op who banned you. If you think you were unfairly banned (in terms of these rules) but are unable to persuade the op who banned you likewise, you may approach an AOP or SOP to mediate in the matter. It will help if you have a log of the exchange that led to your banning.

#GaySA Operator Rules

Channel Operator status is not an entitlement, it is a privilege and a responsibility.
Do not use your ACC level as status. It is not.

  1. Abide by Atrum’s rules, and the rules of the channel.
  2. Channels Ops must act in the best interest of the channel, and be fair, tolerant, not unnecessarily hasty, and even-tempered in their dealings with the users of the channel.
  3. You may only kick or ban individuals for transgressing channel and/or Atrum rules. You may not kick or ban for trivial reasons, or on trumped-up charges. Be tolerant and understand that Gaysa should be a channel which is conducive to chatting.
  4. A user who has broken a rule should be first be kicked for the offence after being warned as per the rules and banned only if the offence is repeated. The exception here is bashers and flooders, who may be banned immediately.
  5. When you kick or ban anyone, you must give your reason in the kick/ban message – not only to inform the individual, but the rest of the channel too.
  6. When Newbies commit basic and/or innocuous infringements they should be warned and encouraged to read the rules. (Educating Newbies through kicking and banning is not condoned)
  7. Except in extraordinary circumstances, you may not kick or ban anyone with an access/authority level higher than your own. If you do, make sure you have the log of events to substantiate your action, which, in these circumstances, should be strictly in terms of the rules.
  8. Nicks that are blatantly offensive, drug-related, racially offensive or sexually explicit may be banned on sight, with an appropriate kick or ban message. When in doubt, consult a SOP, or an AOP.
  9. Anybody deliberately trying to instigate trouble or cause unpleasantness may be removed from the channel. However, please be even-handed – the person taking the bait might be just as much to blame for the fracas as the person throwing it out.
  10. You may not kick or ban a user before they transgress a rule.
  11. Avoid kicking and banning for a laugh, i.e. as a joke.
  12. If anyone asks you to kick or ban another user for abusive behaviour, advise the complainant to use the /ignore <nickname> command.
  13. As a Channel Op you should, as per the general rules, also use the /ignore <nickname> command if you cannot simply ignore the remarks of an individual who offends you in the open channel, or in private.
  14. If you are abused as a Channel Op in private, deal with it in private. Do not summarily kick or ban the abuser. However, if there are complaints from other users of similar abuse from the same user, then kick or ban the user in accordance with the rules.
  15. Any ban may be removed if it is older than 3 days (unless set by ChanServ), you may not remove another Op’s ban without first consulting with that Op within this period. If the Op in question is not present, you may remove the ban at your discretion. However, Channel Ops who lift legitimate bans will be removed from the ChanServ list.
  16. You may not use Ops to influence, or to win favour with users.
  17. You may not use Ops to settle personal disputes, or to intimidate users.
  18. You may not kick or ban anyone because they have made you emotional, bruised your ego, or rattled your self-esteem.
  19. You may have only one nickname on the #GaySA ChanServ ops list. If you are found to have more, all your nicks may be removed from the list.
  20. Should you be away from your computer, change your nick to reflect this,  e.g AwayYourNick or YourNickAway
  21. If a channel operator transgresses any of #GaySA’s general or operator rules, their Chan-op status will be suspended for 30 days at the discretion of 2 or more channel SOPs.
  22. If you ask for your nick to be removed from the #GaySA ops list, it will be removed. Permanently. It’s a good idea to wait a few days before you request something like this.
  23. You may not set topics that are distasteful, religiously offensive, drug-related, racially offensive or sexually explicit.
  24. #GaySA’s url must remain in the topic at all times followed by the current topic. i.e. www.gaysa-irc.co.za | “Current Topic”
  25. The onotice feature may only be used by the channel operators as a way of communicating official channel business amongst themselves. The same rules apply for the use of onotice as for normal chatting in the main channel.

NB: If you feel you are unable to abide by any of the above rules please ask to be removed from the #GaySA ops list. Otherwise, as long as you are on the list, you acknowledge that you have read and understood all the channel’s rules, and agree to always abide by them - to the good of the channel.
